LMSL Competition: Win A Football League Team Shirt!

29 09 2009

It really wouldn’t be fair to our readers and podcast listeners interested in the Coca-Cola Football League if our new predictions competition was only limited to the SPL, so we’ve decided to extend it into the Football League as well.

Now, whereas with the SPL predictions competition you only have to predict the final table of one 12-team league, the Football League is made up of three 24-team divisions.  For our Football League competition, then, you won’t have to give us your final table predictions for all 72 clubs, but you will need to give us the following information:

  • Your three picks to win the Coca-Cola Football League Championship, League One and League Two.
  • Your five other teams you predict will go up via automatic promotion (the runner-up in the Championship, the runner-up in League One, and those clubs you think will finish second and third in League Two).
  • Your three promotion play-off winners (one from each division).
  • The nine clubs you think will be relegated this season (three from the Championship, four from League One and two from League Two).

For the Football League prediction competition, we will use a similar scoring system to what we’re using with the SPL competition, in that you will receive one point for each club you’ve correctly predicted in each appropriate category.  To avoid confusion, let me provide you with an example:

Let’s say you’ve made your predictions based on the current Football League tables as though the season on Sunday.  Therefore, you would have chosen the following in each category:

  • Champions: Newcastle United, Leeds United, Bournemouth.
  • Automatic Promotion:West Bromwich Albion, Charlton Athletic, Dagenham & Redbridge, Rotherham.
  • Play-off Winners (based on current league positions): Preston North End, Bristol Rovers,Rochdale.
  • Relegated: Barnsley, Ipswich Town, Plymouth Argyle, Brighton and Hove Albion, Wycombe Wanderers, Tranmere Rovers, Southampton, Torquay United, Darlington.

If all of those predictions turned out to be correct, you would end with the full 20 points.  You don’t need to reach 20 points to win, of course, but in the event that we have a tie at the end of the season between entrants, the winner will be chosen at random from those remaining entries.

To enter the competition, simply make your picks as directed above and send them to me at matthew.lmsl@gmail.com.  The deadline for this competition is Oct. 31, so you do have some time to make your predictions, but don’t put it off for too long.  Good luck!
